A Love Story in the Sky: Julia & Nick’s Wedding at The Robey
Love stories are often filled with twists, turns, and unexpected moments of serendipity. For Julia & Nick, their journey began in Budapest, flourished through their shared love of mathematics, and culminated in a breathtaking (and windy) rooftop ceremony at The Robey Hotel in Chicago in June 2021. Like many couples navigating the uncertainties of the time, Julia & Nick adapted their wedding plans, opting for a more intimate celebration that embraced the essence of their love rather than the grandeur of an event. The result? A day filled with heartfelt moments, deep connections, and a reminder that love always finds a way.

A Ceremony Filled with Meaning
Their ceremony was as unique as their story. Eschewing traditional readings, they chose to exchange letters—fragments of history between two artists whose words echoed the depth of their own connection. They read from a 1918 letter by Alfred Stieglitz to Georgia O’Keeffe:
“There it stood in large blazing letters—Wherever I looked: ‘What do I want from her’—And there was no answer.—Do I want anything from her that she hasn’t already given me over & over again? … What do I want from you?—Nothing—nothing—…”
O’Keeffe’s 1929 response followed:
“You see—I have not really had my way of life for many years—When I felt very close to you—that there was a home for me really within you—I could live—I will say—your way as much as it was possible for me to live another’s way—…”
These words, spoken nearly a century ago, resonated with the truth of Julia & Nick’s bond—one built on mutual understanding, unwavering support, and the recognition that their love had already given them everything they could ever need.

Love That Endures
The rooftop of The Robey provided the perfect backdrop for their vows, the Chicago skyline standing as a testament to their past and future adventures. It was a day of quiet elegance, joyful laughter, and a celebration of the love that had carried them from the historic streets of Budapest to a dreamy engagement in Florence, and finally, to this moment where they pledged forever to each other. Julia & Nick’s wedding served as a reminder that love, in its purest form, is not about grandeur or perfection—it’s about finding home in another person.
