A Heartfelt City Winery West Loop Wedding Ceremony for Jill & Conor

 In Weddings

Jill and Conor chose to be married at City Winery West Loop, a location that tied beautifully back to where it all began. Their first date took place at a cozy wine bar in Roscoe Village—a night filled with effortless conversation, laughter, and the spark that started everything. Standing together years later in a winery, surrounded by their closest people, felt like coming full circle.

A Communal Blessing: The Ring Warming Tradition

Early in the ceremony, Jill and Conor invited their guests to take part in a rare and deeply touching tradition: an Irish ring warming. Their rings were passed through the crowd, hand to hand, as each guest held them for a moment and offered a silent prayer or blessing.

By the time the rings returned to the couple, they carried not only symbolic significance, but also the warmth, hope, and love of every person present. It set a tone that the marriage they were entering was supported by a wide, strong circle of community.

Honoring the Foundations That Shaped Them

One beautiful theme woven throughout their ceremony was the strength of family. Both sets of parents are still married, and we acknowledged the incredible example that legacy provides. Jill grew up watching her parents prioritize their relationship—Friday date nights, yearly trips, and a commitment to fun—which she hopes to carry forward into her own marriage. Conor shared how deeply meaningful it was to be embraced by Jill’s family early in their relationship, especially during their memorable trip to Hawaii.

In a meaningful nod to their shared Catholic upbringing, we incorporated a water blessing over the rings. After their parents became the final participants in the ring warming, they poured water over the rings in a baptism-inspired ritual. It was a beautiful blend of tradition, family, and spirituality.

Meaningful Readings & Spiritual Touches

The ceremony included two readings from family members, reflecting both heartfelt tradition and spiritual grounding. One was the beloved “Blessing of the Hands,” a reminder that the same hands they held on their first date would now carry them through every joy, challenge, and adventure to come.

Before the pronouncement, the ceremony closed with four Catholic prayer intentions—blessings for their marriage, their guests, the Church, and their loved ones who have passed. The guests responded together, creating a sense of unity and collective hope.

A Love Built on Laughter, Adventure, and a Big Heart

In crafting their ceremony, I had the joy of sharing the things they love most about one another. Jill described Conor as thoughtful, supportive, and endlessly sweet—the kind of man who wins the hearts of everyone around him (and even her cat, Emmie). Conor spoke about Jill’s heart of gold, her ability to make him better, and how she is genuinely his best friend.

Their relationship is rich with shared adventures—from pasta-making in Florence and wine tours in Tuscany to whale watching in Hawaii—and filled with the kind of inside jokes and belly laughs that come only from true companionship. Congrats on 2+ years of marriage, Jill & Conor! I hope you have strengthened your love through all of your adventures.
