Anni & Timon’s Romantic Mini-Wedding at The Arbory in Chicago
Anni & Timon’s story began in Düsseldorf, Germany, where both were invited to serve as jury members for one of the most prestigious student scholarships awarded by the German Federal Government and the President. Though they had each received the scholarship themselves years earlier—Anni while studying medicine in Aachen and Timon while studying law in Cologne—their paths hadn’t crossed until this very weekend.
On that first evening, as the jury gathered for a casual drink, their eyes met—and kept meeting. The spark was undeniable. Anni, sensing Timon’s shyness, held onto his number and reached out afterward. Despite living in different cities and leading busy lives, they found themselves drawn together, one dinner at a time, until it became clear they were meant to share forever.

When I met with them over zoom, both Anni & Timon described their love with a richness that feels almost timeless. They spoke of each other with profound tenderness—souls entwined, able to understand one another without words. It came through the screen during our initial consultation and planning time together.

Fast forward to May 2023, when Anni & Timon chose The Arbory in Chicago for their intimate wedding celebration. Together, we crafted a heartfelt ceremony filled with poetry, prayer, and deeply personal vows. While I love to officiate in front of hundreds of people, there is also something quite profound to just be with the couple as they voice their love and commitment.
Anni & Timon included “i carry your heart with me” by E.E. Cummings as a reading, a perfect reflection of their deep bond. They wrote their own vows, promising to cherish and protect their love as life partners. The ceremony closed with a prayer, blessing their marriage with faith, laughter, resilience, and joy. It asked for their union to be a godly home filled with love, forgiveness, and encouragement through every season of life.
