Emily & Michael: A Meaningful Inter-Faith Wedding Ceremony at Chicago Athletic Association
On a lovely evening in May 2024, Emily & Michael said “I do” high above Michigan Avenue at the iconic Chicago Athletic Association. Overlooking Millennium Park and Lake Michigan, the space offered a dramatic yet intimate backdrop — the kind that makes a wedding feel both timeless and unmistakably Chicago.
As their officiant, standing with them beneath a beautifully adorned chuppah in this historic venue felt especially symbolic: open on all four sides, just like their new home — welcoming, grounded in community, and rooted in love. Because their families & friends are not just witnesses to their union, but active participants in their lives together.
A Love Story That Began with Conversation
One of the most touching aspects of Emily and Michael’s relationship is how it began: not with grand gestures, but with conversation. They met the night before their first day of medical school at a casual apartment meet-and-greet, and ended up talking for hours. The very next day, they chose seats next to one another — and never really stopped choosing each other after that.
That ease of connection was woven throughout the ceremony. Their story reminded everyone present that love doesn’t always announce itself loudly at first; sometimes it simply invites you to sit down and stay awhile.
Centering the Ceremony on Partnership
At its heart, this ceremony focused on partnership. Emily spoke of Michael’s kindness, his ability to light up a room, and the way he loves her without reservation. Michael shared his admiration for Emily’s intelligence, compassion, and strength — and how certain he is that he chose wisely, guided by his late father’s words to “marry smart.”
Together, they expressed hopes for a marriage filled with happiness, resilience, and teamwork: cherishing life’s highs and facing its lows side by side. As their officiant, it was clear to me — and to everyone witnessing — that this is a couple deeply committed to growing together.
